Neha + Shardul

Engagement Portrait

When the phone rang, the lady on the other end was delightful and friendly. When Neha asked if I was interested in photographing her Hindu engagement ceremony I had to hold back some of my excitement so I wouldn’t sound like a crack pot. But really I was pretty damn happy. My Indian photography college girlfriend had made Indian weddings, engagements and portraits her specialty over in New Zealand and to be honest I was pretty envious. I have a soft spot for Indian culture, add the magnificent colour that is so prevalent makes photographing an Indian event a photographers dream.

The ceremony was lovely and intimate. Held at the family home all their guests had a special part to play. It was layered with many rituals so I was kept on my toes as I never quite knew whether there was more to follow. Neha & Shardul are a very sweet couple and their family very open and warm. I felt very honoured to be there capturing all the special, heartfelt moments. It was simply beautiful.
